Perth Fashion Festival – Designer Capsule 2
Designer Capsule #2 had plenty to live up to following the magnificent display of local talent who took to the runway the evening earlier to showcase their latest collections in the Iconic WA Museum. Round two featured three young designers all uniquely talented and experienced in their own fields, Garth Cook an already festival crowd-pleaser and two exceptionally creative first timers Kim Barton and Steph Audino. Steph Audino was first to the runway and fiercely set the standard with her impressive Spring Summer 12/13 ready to wear collection “Seaside Sanctuary”. A collection of much careful consideration it featured luscious pastels and intricate beading embellishment. It was clear she had paid high attention to detail and fabric in the way the gowns wrapped perfectly around the model’s petite bodies and flowed whimsically as they set the runway a light. Kim Barton took us back to the late 1990’s minimalistic period, inspired by model Bianca Jagger, her Summer 12/13 collection was a clever mixture of bold colour, subtle tailoring exploring the interaction of forms and shapes. Linear silhouettes and contrasting panels create a modern sophistication which formed her casual chic aesthetic. It was final designer to showcase Garth Cook who stole the show though; having showcased already at Sydney Fashion Week his experience was evident. He showcased not one, but three amazing collections his summer 12/13 collection, his resort collection, and his never-seen-before winter 2013 collection. The final collection “Transformer” bought the audience to their feet in applause, models dressed en extravaganza of precision cut garments both sporty and playful, sparkly blue panels and metallic thread knitwear. They were suitably cool sporting high-heel hightops which made them look at ease as they effortlessly dominated the runway.
